I agree with your reason for not giving the book five stars. I have not yet come to the Father Time slaughter this time, but I remember it in all it's glorious absurdity. I like Jude, and I'm enjoying it now, but I think both The Mayor of Casterbridge and Tess of the D'Urbervilles are better.
I wonder what a psychologist would say about Sue. She is really strange and irritating. She must be approaching some full blown personality disorder.
