Joffre, I do indeed agree with your review. Your point concerning the Bible is especially well taken. I wonder if some of the reviewers on Amazon just used the "Search Inside" feature to peruse the Table of Contents without actually reading the book.
One thing that I think is great about The New Lifetime Reading Plan is the inclusion of the Eastern classics. In the first edition, Mr. Fadiman explcitly excuded them, partially because he did not feel himself to be sufficiently acquainted with them to act as a guide. Enter Mr. Major. I think it is downright inspiring that Mr. Fadiman, at the age of 95 or so, invited a co-author to remedy the exclusion.
I like other books of thie type. (Everyone is no doubt aware of my regard for Kenneth Rexroth.) The New Lifetime Reading Plan remains my favorite as well.
