As we all know (ahem) this year's season kicks off at Magny Cours in April with the Bol d'Or.
So I've just been looking at some weather stats for that region of France for April, and it looks like while it's quite dry, it's also blummin' cold overnight.
Does this tie in with reality? Anyone been to the classic Bol and can remember what the weather was like?
It usually rains, and is usually cold this time of the year, but last year was quite nice, chilly in the evening, but nice days. Early morning fog and mist is a problem from the Allier river, just down the hill. It's a strange area, which funnels crappy weather down from Paris. It's nice if you like cows and rain, though.
I went to the le Mans 24 hours a few times in the late 90s, that was held any time from late March to Mid April and the weather was (a) bl00dy cold, (b) bl00dy wet, or (c) both of the above. But that seems to apply to most of our part of Europe... (ignoring "Are we part of Europe?" thread elsewhere...) ;o)
I've been snowed on one year at Le Mans, and sunburned the next.
At least Magny Cours in September is more consistent; there's been torrential rain at some point every year I've been there. Usually during the ride home :o(
The reason we were given for the change was to improve the weather at both races, and to spread the calendar out a bit for the circuits.
So I was wondering if it might be a little more predictable at Magny Cours in April...
The date change has something to do with the Grand Prix @ Le Mans in mai and the SB @ magny cours in oktober. 2 races within ~ month @ the same circuit is something to much for spectators and circuit neightborhoud. Wonder if this date change has impact on the number of spectators at the Bol this year.
