This is not the usual W.E.C. coverage seen on Race 24, but some of you may be interested to know that this weekend will see the Classic 6 hour race at Cartagena in Spain.
It features a night time finish, an international field and bikes from the late seventies up to 1980; it has typically included : P&M, Harris, Moto Martin, Japauto, Dholda, Laverda, Moto Guzzi and ex-factory RSC Hondas and JVC/KVAS/Kool Kawasakis.
Several British teams will be at the forefront; look out for, Phase One Endurance, Team Glam, TZ`S GB, Oldfield Racing, and others probably.
More info on www.deccla.com or www.deccla.org ( in Spanish, English Italian and French ).
There has been live(ish) timing in some previous years, but i couldn`t find any up there yet.
The results are not on that site this morning but I got a text from P1 in Spain last night and apparently they were celebrating having won the race! As I believe this is only the 4th race Phase One have ever won I presume that RBs wallet must have been considerably lightened!
Phase One were racing a Pecket & MacNab framed Z1000 engined machine on only it's 3rd outing since the 1970s. Riders are Peter Linden and Hugh Brasher.
Understandably there was no comment on where anyone else finished or how the race went and I suspect hangovers will make phone calls unwelcome this morning!
Re: Classic Endurance. Cartagena 6hr.- Details a bit sketchy.
Details are still a bit sketchy and i can`t find a full results list yet. Here`s a few fragments from the Phase One Endurance Pit.
Phase one qualified 4th; Hugh Brasher started the race and held a safe 5th; running in 4th approaching the second hour Pete Linden suffered a front tyre punture, leading to a slow in lap, a premature stop and a total loss of approx four minutes on the race; Brasher out again for the third hour and recovered to 6th; by now at the half way point it was begining to turn to dusk, further problems with a rear sprocket; in hour five Brasher was second quickest on track in the dark; Linden fastest on track in the closing stages . . . . . . . .
Overall :- Team Glam (GB), Phase One Endurance (GB), Moretti, Classic Co Endurance Team, TNT Racing.
EURopen Class :- Team Glam, Scuderia,
Open Class :- Phase One Endurance, Moretti, Classic Co Endurance, TNT Racing, Mincions.
Sport 750 :- Moto Europa ( 33rd overall ).
Just a line to explain the Classes. Most of the field races in Open Class, this is similar rules to the Classic Bol & Spa ( though they are all slightly different in the detail ). EURopen class is a recently introduced class, with more mods allowed and some advantages with certain chassis components permitted, for example, wider wheels and the obvious benefits associated with tyres etc. Sport 750 is self explanatory, 750cc limit. More info on the Regs & Classes on the www.deccla.org website.
From the Phase One Endurance point of view. Win in Open Class. Second overall. ( Beating several EURopen class bikes and only being beaten by a EURopen class bike ). This in only the bikes third serious outing and follows on from 3rd in the Classic Bol d`Or earlier in the year.
Congratulations to Team Glam from Cheltenham for the Overall win. No doubt a full and official listing will be posted on the Deccla site manjana.
Got a bit more info, aparently Hugh Brasher was also fastest on track for a while towards the end. Mark (something double barrelled) led the race for some time before retiring. P1 also suffered for 2nd half of race with broken chain adjuster resulting in out of line tyres and excessive tyre wear. Clearly didn't affect the handling too much!
Mark Smith-Halvorsen is the name you`re looking for i think.
The puncture & sprocket/chain adjuster, alignment etc, led P1 to do three tyre changes. Most of the open class might plan for one rear, at the two or three hour point ( high track temperatures at the start, but cooler into the darkness ). Teams in Sport 750 would get away without a tyre change.
