Dear Oh Dear...but what finished Maco?

Just back from Welsh mountain biking where #1 bike suffered brake cable failure hitting #2 bike leading to spectacular pile up (but no injuries) to find more tales of sorry woe on the net! Does anyone know if Maco just couldn't continue with only 2 riders or did something else take them out?

A real shame that such a close race at the front should be spoiled by a head gasket!
