Posted by pat I was very impressed with the quality and quantity of presentations, which ranged from beginner level to more advanced. Two people from our organization attended, and that simply wasn't enough to cover all that we wanted to see. Travel to/from the airport, accomodations (very accessible), food, and over-all conference organization added to the wonderful learning experience of this conference. And, if by chance this conference isn't stimulating enough for you, you can take a 10 minute shuttle to the Mall of America--which is completely overwhelming!! Closing the Gap will held Oct.18-21, 2001. If you have any interest in assistive technology, you must check out this conference. You can get more information from www.closingthegap.com, which you can access from Links and Resources on the speakingofspeech.com web site.

I had the pleasure of attending Closing the Gap last year. This annual conference, held in two neighboring hotels just outside Minneapolis, provides 3 full (really full!) days of workshops dealing with all aspects of assistive technology and special education, and there are in-depth preconference sessions as well. In addition, there is a huge exhibitor hall with high and low tech equipment, software, and adaptations for every disability, with mini-presentations and lots of opportunities for hands-on experience with devices and conversation with vendors, representatives, developers, and users.
