Posted by Coffeebug on 18/2/2005, 5:58 pm, in reply to "Re: The new and improved thread :)" Yeah, I heard that about New Jersey. I find it funny that some folk wouldn't want to go into the city just because they're used to the countryside. As far as I'm concerned, that's all the more reason to pop into the city once in a while! I'm a country girl and I love to get to a city every now and then. Yeah, here a full-time degree course is 3 years, I don't know what it'd be part time though. I bet it is exhausting too, working and studying. You must have plenty of self-discipline. Hope you had a nice weekend LOL --Previous Message--
Yeah I got a multi-mod chip put into my dvd player too, so I could get USA dvds if the British version wasn't available. I find it really annoying though, when it isn't released here. I think that if they don't want to release it everywhere it should be region 0, dammit!
: My manager at work is really big into British
: comedy and film also, so I'll have to ask
: him if he has any of the ones you mentioned
: in his collection. He actually bought a
: separate DVD player, which he programed to
: play all regions. This way if a DVD is not
: available in the U.S., he can now order DVDs
: in PAL format from the UK and be able to
: watch it.
:
: I'm glad you came out to visit and enjoyed
: it. It is definatley an amazing place, then
: again I also haven't been to any major
: cities outside the US to be able to compare.
: I'm on the New Jersey(NJ) side of NYC, so
: depending on where in NJ a person lives they
: love it or hate it. The area I'm in is
: highly influenced by city culture, so for
: the most part they love the city life and
: like spending time there. People who live
: further out in the suburbs of NJ don't like
: it as much. They go out there if they work
: there, but otherwise they enjoy their quiet
: environments (how boring-lol). Amazing
: enough some people in NJ have a fear of NYC
: and have never even been there.
:
: I know I should have specified it as
: college. At my age people for some reason
: tend to refer to it as school. They'll just
: simply ask me "How's school
: going?" When it's asked to a typical
: college age student it's "how's college
: life treating you?" I'm working on
: completing a four year business degree. In
: the UK college is only 3 years right? Even
: though it's part time it can get exhausting
: because I work full-time. I really do hope
: it will be worth it in the end.
:
: Have a great weekend!

: Oh yeah an English heritage definitely
: qualifies you as somewhat British LOL I'm
: half Scottish and half English so I'm
: utterly British! We have had some great
: comedies come out lately.. My favourite at
: the moment is 'Little Britain', but I'm
: really fond of 'The League of Gentlemen'
: too. Both are really disturbing, but I like
: that. I don't know if either of those have
: made it to the US? 'The Office' is great..
: Horribly cringey in parts isn't it.
:
: Oooh ten minutes out of NYC, that's
: brilliant. I went there four years ago and
: thought it was probably the most amazing
: city I've ever seen. I'm not well travelled
: so I suppose I don't have a huge frame of
: reference, but I've a feeling no other place
: in the world would be quite like it.
:
: Hahaha I think it was because you called it
: school. When I think of further education I
: tend to think of it as college, purely
: because around here that's where A level and
: certain degree facilities are. My friend is
: a teacher and she's a little younger than me
: so it wasn't a dig at your age LOL What is
: it that you're studying, anyway? Must be
: hard work doing it part time. It'll be worth
: it though!
:

: Oh please no need to apologize (I think you
: may spell it with an "s" rather
: than a "z") Actually my heritage
: is English so I think that would qualify me
: to be somewhat British? It would also
: explain why I watch a lot of English comedy
: shows ("Coupling", "The
: Office", and "Keeping up with
: Appearences"), love English rock bands,
: FLC, and English fashion. Oh yes, and I have
: a Unionjack change purse in my handbag.
:
: I live ten minutes outside of New York City.
: OK-here comes a really good laugh...I'm not
: the teacher, I'm the student. LOL!! Did you
: automatically assume I was the teacher
: because I'm "old"?? - lol! Believe
: me I have a great sense of humor(humour) and
: don't take many things offensively. I'm
: still laughing What happended was I went
: to college for a couple of years and didn't
: complete my degree, so in 2003 I decided to
: return part-time and complete it.
:
: Tesco sounds sneaky like most corporations.
:
: --Previous Message--
: Sorry, I was assuming you're British just
: because I am LOL Yeah Tesco is Britain's
: biggest supermarket chain. It is estimated
: that one out of every 8 British pounds is
: spent at Tesco! It's absolutely staggering
: really.. They have this price check thing
: online, so they can tell us how much cheaper
: they are than the other supermarkets, but on
: items where I know Asda are cheaper by about
: 50p, they don't seem to have Asda's price
: available to them. Funny, that!
:
: So where are you from then? And what age
: group do you teach?
:
: --Previous Message--
: Sorry it's taken me so long to post a reply.
: I've just been upto my neck with school
: work.
:
: Pharmaceuticals are a rip off. There are
: generic version of almost every drug, but
: they like to push the namebrands. There is
: such a deregulation in price. I just feel
: bad for those who don't have insurance to
: cover it, especially some of the elderly who
: live on very fixed income.
:
: Tesco is that a supermarket? "Same low
: price" is another popular one. The
: price stays the same, but they reduce the
: contents. A bag of crisps use to be full of
: crisps, now for the same price I get a bunch
: of air and a lot less crisps. It should say
: "Same low price with much fewer
: crisps" lol!
:
: --Previous Message--
: Yeah that's very true. Also, the brand named
: painkillers cost so much more than the
: generic ones that have exactly the same
: amount of the same active ingredients. What
: a con..
:
: Another one is Tesco (I'll happily dob them
: in because everybody knows they do this
: stuff anyway LOL) We'd been buying milk from
: them for ages at 28p a pint. One week it had
: a red sign next to it saying 'new low
: price!' which is intended to make you
: believe they'd dropped the price; however,
: they'd actually raised it to 30p. They
: weren't lying though, it was a low price,
: and it was new.. but it wasn't as exciting a
: deal as they'd led us to believe LOL
:

: Excellent point on the concept of
: improvement!
: Like they say two heads are better than one.
: Lies or play on words is how they get
: consumers everytime.
:
: Here's another one to think about....
:
: No other pain reliever is more effective
: than Ouch. (Ouch is a ficticious name I am
: using for the sake of this example).
:
: A quick reading of that sentence might lead
: you to the impression that Ouch is more
: effective than any other pain reliever,
: especially because you see the words
: "more effective". This reading,
: however, is incorrect. The assertion here
: is only that no other pain reliever is more
: effective; in other words, Ouch is at least
: as effective as other pain relievers. If it
: read, Ouch, is at least as effective as
: other pain releivers it is unlikey to sell a
: lot.
:
:
:
: --Previous Message--
: Hahaha that's very true.. after all if it's
: new it can't be an improvement, because
: there wasn't a predecessor. Damn their
: lies!!! LOL If I see new and improved on a
: product I always worry, because it usually
: means they loused it up!
:
:
: --Previous Message--
: Well here it is the "new and
: improved" thread. I never understood
: the logic behind a product being new and
: improved. A product is either new or it's
: improved. Making an existing item better
: doesn't qualify it as new or does it?
:
: I did see a listing of shows Needledrop did
: last fall. There was actually only one in my
: area, but it would have been nice to go.
: Hopefully they'll tour again!
:
: Oh I heard Paul McCartney played at halftime
: during the Superbowl yesterday. Paul's
: making a come back (the new and improved
: Paul-lol)
:
:
: you're right about the new thread; however,
: I seem to be rubbish at starting new ones,
: so I had better leave that to you LOL
: Needledrop did a few shows last November
: didn't they. I didn't get to any of them
: though, the nearest to me was still too far
: away. I'd love to see them though.
