Posted by Ken M. on 12/13/2005, 5:52 am, in reply to "Re: Director???" I've taken in your posts regarding this script, and I want to offer some heads up. First, due to the grandeur and spectacle of this show combined with the massive resurgence of musical theatre in film, it is very likely that the powers that be are already pondering this step with Pimpernel. Many fans here are tight with those that would hold the rights (which I am fairly sure would fall under Frank and Nan, and not Tams-Witmark), so we'd all know pretty quick if they've been approached. If you've never submitted or sold a script to a major studio before, I must warn you that this is an exercise in futility, as well as a huge risk for the theft of your hard work. Submissions are typically taken in via agents and what not, and most independent submissions are either tossed aside, or boldly stolen by an unscrupulous reader. The best thing I would suggest is the good old fashioned "Want it done right? Do it yourself!" mantra. Develop a strong bond with some local independent filmakers (Jersey is certainly LOADED with them, and digital filmaking has really made amazing things possible for us indies...God bless you Final Cut!) that really believe in the concept with you, and put together a trailer from there. I'm not certain of the rights involved in a trailer...it is possible that you can produce a trailer or short scene in hopes of using that to pitch your script to those that hold the rights (I'm quite sure this is how Robert Rodriguez convinced Frank Miller to let him make Sin City). If you're Jersey based, I'd be happy to help in any capacity that I can muster. I am close friends with a dynamo of a budding film maker...the networking is the key! I'll leave a link to my MySpace page...and via that you can link to a trailer for his upcoming film, and a beauty of a music video. If anything, it will give you an idea at how strong and accessible the independent climate is right now. Just please bear in mind that my blog may tend to occaisionally contain a fleeting obscenity here and there...so, proceed with caution...I try not to rant too much these days, lol. ;-D Anyway, good luck!!! Le jeur de gloire, and all that!!! -Ken
