The Roberts house (Fairwood) was built circa 1940, and when the Inventory of Historic Resources was established in 1981, the house was not yet 50 years old - the age normally used to determine historic recognition. It is, however, a wonderful house, now well over 50 years old, and has been recognized, documented and nominated for designation as an Historic Site in the Inventory. This designation can be accomplished through the adoption and approval of the new Bowie and Vicinity Master Plan, scheduled for approval sometime very early in 2006. Fairwood has been nominated on the basis of two criteria, necessary for designation as a Historic Site: (1) "As an example of Colonial Revival domestic architecture from the early 1940s, the Eugene Roberts House embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type, period or method of construction." and (2) "The Eugene Roberts House occupies partof a larger estate owned by the Bowie family, and is identified with a person or group of persons who influenced society."
: Why isn't this house on the historical
: inventory?
: How old is it, and when was it built?
: It seems that all of the other BOWIE houses
: in the area are included in the historical
: inventory.
