I have been studying Martenet's maps of Maryland from 1861 and 1865. I think those are the dates. There is no map legend given. I have figured out that G* stands for the location of a gristmill, but I have seen W* many times, in Calvert County. I do not know how to interpret that. Do you have the answer to this question?
