Hi Robbie,
We went the same route as you 5 years ago. My husband got a job with Suncor in Fort McMurray, he is on SA passport, kids and myself on British (kids are dual as well). I did the paperwork myself and its not hard. The forms are easy to complete. Was a bit of a pain getting extended families details etc but thats something you would have to get yourself anyway even if you had an agent do it all. I kept saying to my husband while I was doing the paperwork " I cant believe we would have paid someone thousands to do this ". Just take it one step at a time. Also you will have to apply for police clearances and these take a while so dont let that hold you up. You can still send the rest of the paperwork in and when they issue you a file number then you can send the police clearances in later on. I didnt know this at first and we were needlessly waiting around for a pol clearance cert from Zimbabwe !
By the way we didnt regret going to fort mcmurray at all, its a very busy city and cost of houses is high but its where the money is and you can be on your feet and laughing within the year. I have 4 boys and all have settled in very well.If you want to email me for any further help please do so at agodbeer@shaw.ca
