Finding work in one's late forties

My wife and I have been accepted as permanent residents and are planning to move to Vancouver area, Canada from South Africa in the next few months. As I am 49 years old, I am concerned that my age may count against me when looking for jobs. My background is in accounting, but I'd be happy to consider other types of work.
We would be interested in getting feedback about my realistic chances of finding work. Will my age make it more difficult?
