Posted by Gypsy on 10/22/2007, 8:13 am As I listened with an open mind I found the music didn't move me like it did during the previous times that I saw them (them being CSN, CPR, basically all the flavors that you were involved in). The music seemed to me to be slowed down a step or two (too slow actually) and I thought that Military Madness was going to last as long as the Iraq War (I think they are still playing.....). And even though I know that it was Dean Parks that was playing Lay Me Down on the cd/studio version, it lost its power, its spiritual peaceful, easy feeling to me. Then, when JOR was played it hit me. Now I know why I had these feelings---or better said, lack of feelings--of connecting with the music---of soul. You weren't there! The way you played JOR--well let's just say it should have been an instrumental, it was so powerful...the lyrics eh...that tune doesn't need them. You not only brought your guitar to the act, you brought your spiritual and soulful interpretations. And when I thought maybe I was being a little too critical, I put in CPR at Wiltren (you know the part where Mr. Nash joins you all)...the current tour does miss that soulful intrepretation of the songs that you provided. The tightness of the band, the feelings that CPR brought and had for one another was gone. And while "they" will say that "they" haven't missed a beat, I don't agree. The drums maybe the heartbeat of the band, but you--you were their soul. And then to hear about Jame's confirmation to a question about CPR being over....well, I have no desire to hear CN with the rest of the CPR band touring without you again. The intangible (only because I'm not expressing it well) that you brought was just too much a part of that band for me to sit through it again. No thanks. I'll listen to the cds I have when you were on tour with them and naturally to the real thing--the real CPR. Just wanted you to know that there is one person out here that recognized how big your contribution was and to say that this one person misses your involvement. As the song rings in my head..."If we could turn back time...."
The other night I listened to the current CN tour group and was surprised. Before you hit delete, this isn't about them.
But then, we'd never have the opportunity to try new things. Hopefully you still have contact with the muse that helped you bring all that soul and spirit to your playing.
Goodbye and good luck
Gypsy
