Posted by Barb on 1/11/2006, 8:05 am Questions: History Musicians Musically I ask because there is always great talk about Jazz Is Dead on assorted sites, and when talk of shows comes up there is quite a furor amoungest people. I would imagine that people have different opinions on this matter, I noticed this with the Blue Floyd shows last year also. Some really appreciated the improv versions of Pink Floyd, others would rather the band stayed within the exact boundries of the original song. Any thoughts/insight would be welcomed in helping aid my curiosity and understanding of Jazz Is Dead.
For anyone that would like to entrain my stupidity (ignorance, naivete) But what is Jazz Is Dead all about? I have searched the internet, and come up with a few facts about them, but not enough for me to get a true understanding of the band.
When did Jazz Is Dead form?
Is this a band that changes members or is there a core base of musicians that play, and then guests are added?
Comparing Jazz Is Dead to other Grateful Dead cover bands, (such as DSO) where would you place them for musical intergity? ie: Is Jazz Is Dead more of an improv band or stay traditional to the music of the Grateful Dead?
