I believe that Alex was on contract to OCFC, so the 7 day approach is irrelevant. As for Hugh's "here is a comment", whereas I accept that nobody would reasonably stand in the way of any player to better himself,a contract is a agreement between the parties involved. I do not think your comments answered the question. The reason for giving any player a contract surely is to guarantee a player a club for the contracted period and in return the player safeguards the clubs investment during the contracted period. A contract also means that any other club interested in a contract player has to pay to acquire the players services. Why would Alex be excempt from this, remember Forinton and McSporran?? At this level of football with the associated expenses, OCFC need to be business like in such matters.

: I believe technically there would be some sort
: of fee exchanged between the two clubs but
: like Hugh said Oxford City would not stand

:
: If it was a player that was not on contract
: then the 7 day rule applies. This is when
: the interested Club notifies City of their
: intention of talking to the player. From
: that point City would have 7 days to talk
: the player in to staying and ignore the
: interested Club. After the 7 days the
: interested Club can then make an offer to
: the player and he then decides. I think
: that's how the 7 day rule works.
