One comment before I go on my night shift.
Please give some of us a bit of credit for being independent critics Padz. Because we dont all follow the leader, dont assume its because we have 'relatives' playing in the team. I wish I had, maybe I would view the match differently, but I am permitted on this web site to say what I see, along with other spectators who pay to watch. I thought on here we made comments about the football, and not the individuals who post the comments. Don't know how old you are, assume (rightly or wrongly) you are young and don't play yourself or you wouldn't be watching all the matches. Where did you get all your experience. Perhaps because I am a middle aged man football has changed over the years and I see it differently. Didn't mean to get you on your high horse. Apologies.

: well said padz.perhaps its because you dont
: mention 1 of their relatives they get
: upset.its the same old thing with certain
: people.i think some of them comments come
: from the same pc.

: Bert, not sure whether that was supposed to
: be
: tongue in cheek or what, "every week
: you pick sav and malone" , that might
: have something to do with them being top
: players perhaps?, in the last few weeks i've
: said Bairdy was MOTM so obviously i know
: absolutely nothing about the club i watch
: week in and week out.
:
: Perhaps it's you who sees totally different
: to the rest of us?

: Padz. Guess you must be blinkered. Every
: week
: you pick Sav and Malone as our best players.
: Are they your 'best friends'? They cant be
: best every game can they. You must be an
: expert and see things that some of us dont
: see every week.
:

: I'd pick out Steele,Malone,Sav and Clarkey
: as
: our top performers.
:
: I'll admit i had doubt about Clarke last
: season but he's been quality this season.

: I thought we won the game today because we
: played football. No back to front kicking,
: missing out mid field. Our mid field today
: did us proud, as did the flanks, and
: distributed the ball accurately around the
: pitch. Steele was able to score his goals
: because of this. We havent always played
: our mid field as well as we did today,
: because the ball more often than not was
: kicked over their heads, expecting one man
: up front to do all the work and score the
: goals. Today it worked (well done Fordy)
: Lets hope we play like this more often. I
: personally dont feel the substitutions
: improved anything, apart from giving them a
: run out and resting one or two ready for
: our 'win' on Tuesday night. Defence played
: well (didn't need Bairdy up front today
: either). Good to see Pondy can hold his own
: in defence as well as mid field. His ball
: distribution was excellent. Savage &
: Malone had one of their better games with
: the mid field working well together. All in
: all a good game for the spectator (if you
: were an OCFC one), and comments heard round
: the ground were encouraging. However we will
: come against better and stronger teams than
: Bedford, and if we play like we did today we
: can beat them all. Well done lads.

: Thanks, Hugh, for an accurate report on a
: splendid City performance. Bedford started
: brightly but were disappointing once we got
: in front. Steele's finshing was superb today
: and I thought Liam Malone had another
: sterling match: he is an improved player. He
: looks half a yard quicker than last season
: and was really bossing the midfield in the
: second half. Clarke also played well as you
: said and it was great to see Steve Davis
: back and looking hungry when he came on. But
: for me the revelation of the last few games
: has been Mark Janes. I was a bit surprised
: when he was taken off because he was playing
: so well and Bedford looked troubled every
: time he got the ball. It's great that three
: lads who came up through the ranks as
: youngsters together are in the squad
: now--Bell, Janes and Davis--and all so good
: going forward. Only downside for us today
: was the recurrence of Andy Ballard's knee
: injury on his return. If Andy Gunn is still
: unfit next week we could be struggling
: defensively.

: Zamaretto Premier Division
: Saturday 3rd October 2009
:
: Oxford City (3) 4 (Steele 25, 30, 42, 59)
: Bedford Town (0) 1 (Lewis 68)
:
: This was a convincing win and a dominant
: display by City to take their unbeaten run
: to eight games. Lee Steele was the hero with
: four goals for the first time in his senior
: career but his was only one of several
: excellent displays in the City team.
:
: Bedford, mid-table but with a couple of
: decent cup results behind them, could have
: been behind in the second minute as Darren
: Pond latched on to a poor Armitt clearance
: but his shot from twenty yards just cleared
: the bar. Bedford had their best chance of
: the first half four minutes later when
: Draycott found himself in space but took too
: long to shoot, with the result that Dave
: Savage was able to get a challenge in, and
: Wall’s shot sailed harmlessly over.
:
: City began to dominate the game, with Steele
: linking up the play well, Mark Janes full of
: running out wide and Pond pushing up to help
: out up front. Savage and Liam Malone were
: starting to run the midfield and City forced
: a series of corners.
:
: Savage tested Armitt twice from distance
: before City got the lead their play
: deserved. Lee Steele capitalized on an
: error from Lawley on the edge of the area,
: cut inside, made space for himself and
: smashed the ball home from 10 yards out.
: Five minutes later the lead was doubled.
: Mark Bell crossed from the left, Janes
: headed back across goal and Steele was once
: again in the right place to hammer home from
: 6 yards out. A clash of heads left Janes
: lying on the pitch but he was soon able to
: resume his all-action performance.
:
: City were well on top now and any Bedford
: attack was repulsed long before it became a
: threat. Janes went on a tremendous run
: capped by an outrageous dummy which had
: Darby sliding right off the pitch, and
: deserved better than to see his cross headed
: away, but the next goal was only delayed by
: a minute. An excellent Malone tackle was the
: start of a move which saw Pond and Bell set
: up Steele, who rifled home from 15 yards for
: a magnificent hat-trick.
:
: James Clarke, whose positioning and
: awareness at the back were superb
: throughout, ran nearly the full length of
: the pitch in injury time, picking up the
: ball in his own area and only being denied
: by a foul just outside the opposition area.
: Bedford looked shell-shocked and glad of the
: break.
:
: Half-Time: City 3 Bedford 0.
:
: Bedford tried hard to get themselves back
: into the game and made two early
: substitutions, but it was City who were
: still by far the more dangerous and Steele
: added a fourth with an almost nonchalant
: flick from close-in, just making contact
: with a Janes cross that had looked to be
: going behind him.
:
: City made three substitutions but were still
: on top, Stephen Davis and Jamie Brooks
: adding fresh energy down the flanks and
: Michael Alexis impressing behind Steele as
: Pond went to right-back. Bedford, to their
: credit, did not stop trying, and Lewis
: scored a consolation from close range
: following a corner.
:
: This did not stop City from going forward,
: and further goals could have followed. Davis
: produced some more dangerous crosses and
: Alexis was perhaps unlucky to be penalized
: when it looked like he had been fouled
: inside the area.
:
: Full-Time: City 4 Bedford 1
:
: This was another excellent 90 minutes from
: City, who were as dominant as at VT. This
: time they reinforced their superiority with
: goals. All of the City team can be proud of
: their efforts, but it would be perverse
: indeed not to award the Man Of The Match to
: the scorer of four goals, so it has to be
: Lee Steele once again.
:
: City: Knight, Clarke, Perpetuini, Savage
: (c), Pond, Ballard (Alexis 59), Bell (Brooks
: 63), Malone, Baird, Steele, Janes (Davis
: 63).
: Bedford: Armitt, Clark, Lawley (c), Miller,
: Darby, Wall, Daniel, Cavill, Battersby,
: Draycott, Lewis.
