I agree with Claire. This may 'upset' a few fans but she's just as entitled to her view as they are--and what about upsetting the players with all the negativity? Many of the same players who've been praised on here until our recent bad run are now being told they lack motivation! You can't win.
Perspective--Justin has been building something good here. That doesn't happen overnight. Didcot have been patiently building for years, and are now seeing fruition--and yet they're not miles ahead of us in the league. We've had a good season compared to the last ten--fact--even if we slip a bit in the latter part of it. We are going through a bad patch--fact. Jermaine is out injured, Errol suspended, Jon just getting over a long injury, and it's taking a little while for the new forwards to gel, though everyone agrees Michael Lyon is trying hard. The defence has been doing well overall and the goalkeeper is a good one--not disputed. Pond and Malone have formed a good partnership in the middle, which most fans think is our best for some time--fact. They may be a little jaded just now, and the pitch may be hampering their passing a bit, but we like them, don't we?
Bell is a great prospect. Like all youngsters, he can be a bit inconsistent because consistency is something that usually comes with experience. He's probably better on the right than the left and Justin knows that, but playing both sides develops a useful versatility. He mustn't be over-played at his age, which is why it's a pity Jonah has gone like Anya earlier; but Anya was probably destined for higher things, and Jonah understandably saw his opportunities limited at City by Bell's progress, and at his age/stage is bound to feel he needs to be somewhere where he'll play more often.
Redknapp is a good player, and Justin knows that too, which is why he signed him; but he was probably signed to play midfield, and I seem to remember Justin being criticised on here for not playing Pond and Malone together. Their partnership has been good for City until very recently but it pushed George a little to the margins. We don't want to lose him and I expect Justin will try to find a way to include him more. At least all this has served to remind George that he is appreciated.
Gardner is also a good player; though he can blow hot and cold at times, he has a valued ability to open up defences and he is great at set pieces. It's difficult to get back in the groove after a long layoff but I thought he played well in the 20 minutes he was on as a sub on Saturday and so it was worth the risk of giving him a full game last night. This time it didn't pay off, but he will want to make amends soon. Would we have done better with Davis or Bell on the left? It's easy to be wise after the event, but neither has been particularly successful there recently.
Meanwhile other players have been continuing to play well, most notably Andy Gunn.
Let's have our say and move on together, behind this team which still has a good chance of the play-offs. A couple of good wins will make us all feel better.
Meanwhile others have continued to turn in quality displays, like
