W-e-m-b-l-e-y, W-e-m-b-l-e-y...
Vets are on their way to Wembley, Vets are gonna do it again...
As Elton John would say, `ring rusty` would best describe a few performances (did anyone take Dave Watson`s belt & shoelaces off him?) but the end result was achieved by reaching the final at Wembley - sorry, Chipping Norton or Witney?!
Once again, the Vets squad eventually proved too strong / experienced for a much improved & busy Stonesfield side that had a few old faces such as Fowlesy, Deller & the Cold Arbour Legend that is Johnny Merrill - still got that `shimmy` mate, brilliant!
With `Clanfield Fonty` away on duty painting in Iraq, `Lobber Fleety` finishing his phsychiatric (Creedy - spelt correctly?) assessments & Phil `McRodders` losing his sporting diary / calender of events, the Gaffer called on other members of the squad to `step-up-to-the-plate` for this crucial `must-win` game...anyway, none of those were available so Tommo went in goal!
Starting team;
Sepp Maier (younger twin of bloke in bar), Gaffer `I can`t get round Julio I`m 43` Creed, Lewey (still don`t know where he`s from?), Marco `Kilimanajaro-kid` Capello, Jools `City Legend` Dark, Tim `busy` Bowley, Stuart `Clarky` Tompkins, Shaun `Kamakaze head 1st` Bradbury, Dave `training for Olympics` Watson, Wayne` both calfs have just gone again` Holden & Mark `Ollie` Orlando (Gaffer wanted me to call you `Monk` but I told him that was out-of-order mate!
Legendary Subs;
Mark `fit-as-a-butcher`s-dog` Jennings & the `Guinness / passing Legend` that is yours truly.
What a squad & well done to all the lads for a persistent performance to reach the final...get in!!!
After my usual post-match interview with Geoff Shreeves, he enquired if we had any pre-match or travel arrangements / plans for the final...I answered `no`. Stupid question really...
Windy - I want to see you at the final mate.
Signing off,
Liam `where`s my tracksuit?`, age 38, playing again at Didcot tonight & then back to the White Hart Wolvercote for a couple of pints of the black-stuff` Carroll.
