Thank you for both those messages. You've hit the nail on the head. This is precisely what City represents, an antidote to the power and money culture which pervades the professional game.
Oxford City is a community, not a commodity, and it has a strong tradition of providing watchable football at a reasonable price. It also has a marvellous heritage of success (and occasional failure), which is currently being researched.
Up the City!

: Completely agree mate. Originally it was
: just the Premier League i began to despise
: but the cancer of hyperinflated entry
: prices, soulless all-seater grounds, and
: clubs forgetting what they're all about has
: spread to more or less the whole of the
: Football League.
:
: When I look at the other club in this city,
: sadly it seems to have worked its way into
: non-league too - over £15 for a fifth tier
: game, in a morgue of a ground stuck out
: beyond the ring road? Not for me. Thats why
: Oxford City are so important to football
: followers in the city, and why I firmly
: believe, there's only one team in Oxford. Up
: the City!

: I became fed up of the Premiership and
: league
: football years ago so gave up my season
: ticket at Manchester City. I started to do
: my football watching in Italy instead, where
: you can still get into a Serie A gamne for
: 10 euro. But I could only go to Italy a
: couple or three times per season (although
: usually for a week at a time, so would take
: in 4 games per visit). But when my kids
: came along that reduced the football visits
: to Italy to nil. So about 4 seasons ago I
: started watching non-league football. I
: went to watch Maine Road FC, who play in
: the North West Counties League (step 5) in
: the North West. Last season was good
: because we were fighting it out with FC
: United for promotion, but there was never
: really any serious possibility that Maine
: Road would go up. I moved to Oxford in
: October and I started attending City matches
: straight away. I now come to the vast
: majority of the home games, and only miss a
: home game if we just cannot make it. Also
: been to an away game.
:
: I usually come with my 20 month old son, who
: is the little red hair chap who kicks his
: little football about with his left foot -
: watch out Mark Bell he is after your
: position . I have enjoyed this season more
: than any season I can remember as a football
: fan. The excitement of watching the lads
: chase promotion has been great. The last
: time I had this much excitement was when Man
: City beat Gillingham in the Division 2 play
: off final in '99, but even that was just one
: game (the rest of the season at Maine Road
: was dire). Moreover, coming to City is like
: having real football again. And being among
: real football people again: I turned up
: late at half time for one game and the gate
: person wanted to allow me free because I had
: missed the first half. I insited on paying
: a fiver to the club, so they gave me a badge
: and programme. People like that are proper
: football people that are only interested in
: getting people into the ground to join in.
: Also getting a chocolate on the way into the
: ground for the Xmas game and a free mince
: pie with a cup of tea - this all speaks
: volumes for City as a club.
:
: My cousin's husband is the guy that is
: setting up AFC Liverpool. I told him to go
: and support a local non-league team and join
: in with proper football people instead
: because, if every premier league club sets
: up their own non-league team, what will
: happen to existing non-league clubs like
: City. For sure they can do with the extra
: support, and generating big crowds is what
: FC United have been good at. But it is one
: thing having AFC Liverpool and another
: entirely if all of the Premier League 'big
: boys' take over the non-league, pushing out
: all of the good clubs and good people like
: those at City. Thanks for a great season so
: far. I really hope we go up.
