As regards the ref. How is he supposed to progress and get better if he is not exposed to competitive real games of football? All young players start somewhere and if a young player had a shocker you would all be saying, "he's only young give him time", the same surely applies to Coggins. I am not defending his performance but why are you all desperate for the lad to fail? There are tackles and there are leg breakers. Anyone at the game with any sense of justice would probably have sent off at least two of the Bletchingdon players, not for over zealous competitive tackling but for genuine attempts to seriously damage the Oxford City players. There lies the difference, being competitive and trying to mame someone. I think You will find Oxford City took the game very seriously indeed by sending out what was virtually a full strength team, and not treating the competition with contempt by fielding a reserve team.
