Oxford City travelled away to Plymouth Argyle in the Second Round Proper of the FA Cup on Sunday 11 November.
Pylmouth Argyle play in the league above Oxford City (South West Combination) and are unbeaten at home all season, so City knew they had a tough test ahead of them.
City started the game well, and matched Plymouth throughout the first half. After 25 minutes City's efforts were rewarded and Deanne Tomkins slotted past the Plymouth keeper after some neat build up play to make it 1-0 to City.
After the goal City continued to attack Plymouth and had some great chances to go 2-0 up, if it weren't for some great goalkeeping and good defending by Plymouth.
This acted as a wake up call to Plymouth and they started attacking City's half with more promise and scored 2 goals in quick sucession, to make it 2-1 to Plymouth just before half time.
Plymouth started the 2nd half brightly and they really got on top of the game without making many chances for themselves. City battled hard and it was a committed performance from all involved, but 5 minutes from time Plymouth scored their third goal after a quickly taken free kick, to make it 3-1 to Plymouth.
City had the better goalscoring opportunites throughout the match but couldn't capitalise on these and in the end Plymouth's class shone through to win this FA Cup match. City can now concentrate on their league and look back on their longest FA Cup run ever with fond memories.
City defend their County Cup Champions title on Sunday 18 November against Oxford United Ladies at Court Place Farm (KO 2pm), in what promises to be a eagerly contested match. All are welcome to attend.
