Posted by Rijs on April 30, 2007, 10:41 pm Some interesting features: City used 33 players in just 42 league matches. That's a lot--settled teams might use only 20-24. Only 10 played in at least half the matches, and only 3 in more than 30 (again, a settled team would have more playing over 30). This reflects the evolution of the team over the season, the trying out of juniors, loan players and some with us for short spells, and the long injury list. The team was at its most settled in the last part of the season, excluding the Newport game for obvious reasons. Best strike rate from the major players was that of Ray Spence, closely followed by Alex Stewart, who was top scorer but with only 11. A lot of players chipped in with 1-5 goals (15 of them!). Actually, the best strike rate was that of Chris Harper, who appears to have been under-used!--but this table uses only starting line-ups, not substitutions, and one of Chris' goals came from one of those. So here goes: Apeearances: Durrant 38, Avery 34, Jones 33, Craker 28, Merritt 27, Lane 24, Malone 23, Stewart 23, Alleyne 21, Rendell 21, Burnley 18, Takriti 18, Wilkins 18, Drake 14, Spence 13, Griffin 11, G. Williams 11, Chakoadza 10, Farrow 10, Steedman 8, R. Williams 8, Ford 7, Marriott 7, Beechers 6, Keen 6, Bell 4, Davis 3, Mitchell 3, Cattell 2, Janes 2, Wickens 2, Harper 1, Matsunaga 1. Scorers: Stewart 11, Spence 7, Jones 6, Alleyne 5, Burnley 5, Chakoadza 4, Craker 4, Lane 3, Wickens 3, Beechers 2, Harper 2, Marriott 2, Avery 1, Bell 1, Cattell 1, Durrant 1, Rendell 1, G. Williams 1.
For interest's sake, and partly because some of the information in the programme is inaccurate (e.g no scorers for the Brook House match) I thought I'd produce a list of appearances and scorers for our league games this season--not including cup, where we play opponents of differing standards. In the end I could only see 61 goals of our 62, so either the programme has not listed another, or I've missed one, or there was an own goal somewhere--please put me right if you spot the error, I've basically worked from the centre page records.
