Dear Ray,
I can't help how people may interpret scripture. I certainly will not take the conclusions of an ecumenical council over and above the inspired Word.
Genesis introduces time and creation. Creation came first. The creation of the "world that then was" was perfect. (Isaiah 45:18) Time was not introduced until after the overthrow. What was "before the ages"? God was. The eternal God means continuity. He always was and always will be.
The name I AM means "timeless". The name I AM is used of BOTH Jehovah AND Jesus. See Exodus 3:14 and John 8:59.
1Cor 2:7,8
But we speak the Wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden Wisdom, Which God ordained BEFORE the world [ages] unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
Titus 1:1,2
Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised BEFORE the world began; But hath in due times manifested His Word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Savior.
Compare this with 2Tim 1:1-
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus.
Notice that Jesus was ordained before the ages, before the world began, before the overthrow. He was with God in the beginning and WAS God. There is One God, but He created an image of Himself so that men would believe. God has many names and titles, over 300 I believe. I started writing down as many as I could find as I read through the Scripture and the titles filled several legal size pages. I am sure I did not find them all.
Before the ages, God is all. Then there is time, "the ages". After all His work is accomplished, God will be "all in all". God is spirit and truth and freedom and love and justice. God is incomprehensible to man except as He sees fit to reveal Himself to us. God is ONE, but He has chosen 3 ways to reveal Himself. This was only necessary so that men would understand and believe.
God the Father is invisible. The image of God can be seen, is the revelation of God, the Word of truth, the Son, Christ. The third way that God reveals Himself is through His Holy Spirit which enlightens those who seek Him and seals those who are in Christ until the day of our resurrection, and makes intercession for us when we pray.
As far as Acts 15:6, it is Peter and then James who spoke to the council and persuaded them. Peter and James were chosen by God to be apostles. Their words were inspired. The decisions made by some ecumenical council appointed by men are based on the reasoning of men, not God. Man's wisdom is just foolishness in the eyes of God. (1Cor 1:19-21)
