Dear Ray,
Matthew 11:11
Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not been one greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding He that is the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
"least" = "younger", meaning Himself. John the Baptist was proclaiming the kingdom, but he was not IN it. The One Who possesses the kingdom is greater than John who proclaimed it. Christ will reign and be King of Israel in the kingdom.
Compare Matthew to John 3:28-35.
------------------------------------------
John 14:28
Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If you loved Me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go to the Father, for My Father is greater than I.
The Son of God was not inferior as to His essential being, but only in regard to His office. He was SENT by the Father.
John 10:30
I and My Father are One.
John 14:9-11
9 Jesus said unto him, Have I been so long with you, and yet hast thou not known Me, Philip? He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me?the words that I speak unto you I speak not of Myself: but the Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the work.
11 Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me: or else believe Me for the very work's sake.
------------------------------------
God the Father is speaking to His Son in Hebrew 1. How do you explain Hebrews 1:8-12? The Father calls the Son "God".
How do explain John 1:1-3 and John 1:14?
Christ is equal to God because He IS God. Please read Philippians 2:5-10. As Jesus, God humbled Himself. "He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." (Php 2:6) The name Jesus is the name associated with the shame which He endured in order to save His People from their sins. (Matt 1:21-23) The Lord's enemies and demons irreverently called Him "Jesus" in Matt 8:29. His followers always called Him Master or Lord. (John 13:13,14; Luke 6:46)
