I agree with much of your post, which begins when you wrote: "You said we are supposed to wash and preserve our flesh, right? Not even close."
It is interesting that you mentioned the following:
James 4:8
Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.
St. James described a cleaning process for hands that have been working sin. Washed hands are hands that have been preserved; right? Isn't this in agreement with what I wrote, which you claimed was not even close [to the truth]?
Jesus wrote of cutting off eyes, hands, and feet, in order to avoid further sins. I do not think He meant it literally, but through a spiritual transformation, by being united with the death and resurrection of Jesus. The sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion are instrumental in this transformation.
