Dear Ray,
I thought some more about your question. In honesty, no one from a "traditional Christian persuasion" has tried to convert me except the JWs and the Mormons who have come knocking on the door on occasion. The forums I have found are Bible discussion forums. We discuss scripture, not particulars about one denomination or another.
Out of curiosity, I looked up Eastern Orthodox, Episcopalian, and Roman Catholic churches in our area. There were nine of the former and ten Catholic churches. The majority of the Catholic churches are Hispanic. On the other hand, there are 277 Baptist churches, divided into several categories: ABA ?), Free Will, General, Independent, Southern, Missionary, and over a hundred with no category.
I had to look up "liturgy".
"liturgy" - 1. a form of public worship; a ritual. 2. A collection of formularies for public worship. 3. A particular arrangement of services. 4. A particular form or type of the Eucharist service (the sacrifice of the Mass).
I did visit one Eastern Orthodox Church when I was teenager. The men sat in pews with carved wood at the front of the church. The women stood at the back. There were men with long robes walking around with brass containers with incense that filled the room with so much smoke that one of the old ladies fainted. It was hard to breath. The priest spoke in another language so I couldn't understand anything he said. There was "holy water" at the front that people kissed. It didn't seem very sanitary to me. There were also statues of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. There were candles and stained class and chants and a balcony above us at the back of the room with trumpets playing every once in a while. Is this what your church is like?
I have a friend who belongs to a Greek Orthodox church in Detroit. She has to drive some distance to go to it. She thinks she has to constantly confess her sins and feels guilty. She is always afraid she will forget some sin that she must have committed. Do you believe that we have to continually confess our sins? I don't believe that. I believe that the work He did on the cross is finished and all our sins are forgiven.
