Dear Ray,
It has been a long time since I visited this site. How are You? One of our sons is also interested in reading the Bible. I suggested starting at the very beginning. There is not only the description of the creation of the heaven and earth, but the first prophecy concerning Christ and Satan is found in Gen 3:15. The meaning of soul is found in Gen 2:7. Because Adam and Eve disobeyed God's commandment and believed Satan's lie, sin and death came upon all mankind.
Christ IS found in Genesis. Who do you think the "us" is referring to in Gen 1:16? We know Christ took creature form in order to create. All things were created for and by Him. (John 1:1-3; Col 1:14-17)
Your whole religion could be based on the description of Christ in Isaiah 53. The Jehovah witnesses do not like Isaiah 9:6. "For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government is on His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." It throws a wrench in their denial of the deity of Christ.
Anyway, it's great that your daughter is beginning to study the Word. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2Tim 3:16)
