Jesse,
Thanks for your response. She is reading from the New King James Version, rather than the KJV.
I can understand your suggestion of reading Genesis first, but I think reading about Jesus grabs one's interest more than any other book of the Bible. I recommend this as one of the first books to read, after one (or all) of the gospels.
Why do you recommend skipping over Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers to go to Deuteronomy?
I am surprised that you recommend Isaiah as one of the first books to read. It is true that the book of Isaiah has prophecis of Jesus. Is this the reason you recommend this as one of the first books?
I did not realize that teenagers often find Revelation interesting. Come to think of it, my brother was that way when he was a teenager. It is ok if my daughter reads this with fascination, but I think she is better of by reading other books first.
I think that a parallel study of the four gospels should be undertaken after one reads all four gospels.
This week I compared the beginning of Mark with the beginning of Matthew, and I think Mark is better at getting people interested in Jesus. In Mark, Jesus seems like a celebrity in the first chapters, such that the reader will quickly realize why the Christian religion has so many members. I have to wonder if St. Mark wrote his gospel as something intended as an introductory gospel; something that is akin to an abridged gospel so that people will have read a biography of Jesus quickly and with generated interest for further investigation.
