I am fascinated that you and so many others (I read Stand Firm) are willing to cut these guys so much slack. This wont ever be my church so at some level I am a spectator -- to use the old the Southern comment, I don't have a dog in this hunt. So writing strictly as an analyst I think Robin has a point.
It is always easier to create a political structure than it is to change it. The moment a polity exists, it has a constituency whose best interest is to maintain it.
I also cannot for the life of me understand how you or anyone else thinks that enthroning Bp Duncan as an archbishop will make it less likely his ideas dominate. When he is the boss expect him to want to validate his views. That is not about theology: it is about human behavior.
