Jim,
You wrote:
"No serious scholar thinks Paul wrote either epistle to Timothy. In fact it is more likely that Timothy wrote them. A common attribution method of the day was to attribute your reflections to your teacher."
This linked page shows that the Roman Catholic church (with their serious scholars) believe that I Timothy and II Timothy were written by St. Paul:
Catholic Encyclopedia: Epistles to Timothy and Titus
This is from near the begging of their web page:
"Epistles to Timothy and Titus — authenticity
Internal evidence
The remainder of this article will be devoted to the important question of authenticity, which would really require a volume for discussion. Catholics know from the universal tradition and infallible teaching of the Church that these Epistles are inspired, and from this follows their Pauline authorship as they all claim to have been written by the Apostle. There was no real doubt on this question until the beginning of the nineteenth century; but since that time they have been most bitterly attacked by German and other writers. Their objections are principally based on internal evidence and the alleged difficulty of finding a place for them in the lifetime of St. Paul."
I am under the impression that the Bible scholars, you think have the best insights into the early church, are ones who seem to think the early church was made up of men who were more interested in public relations than in saving people's souls. In your opinion, was the early church much like a political party of today, where books and speeches from candidates for political office are screened for public relations effects, and are written with rampant plagarism and ghost writing?
Am I correct about your views, and the views of those whom you have been mentioning?
