As Christians we ought to be wanting the system to be just. When a poor (financially) person pays more taxes than a wealthy (financially) person then the system is not just. The system that we have is so complicated and effectively opaque that the average person has no way of knowing whether it is just or not. That's a problem in a democracy because we are responsible for the system.
