I am curious as to the year (or approximate year) your wife got the same loan that you could not get.
I was under the impression that the societal desire to offer women extra protection often causes the opposite when women apply for a loan. I thought banks are (or at least used to be until a generation ago) prejudiced in favor of men because if a man loses face because he fails to pay back a loan, this is more upsetting to a man, as compared to a woman. I thought banks want borrowers who are more upset about not making the payments, as compared to borrowers who do not suffer such embarrassment.
