Thanks for the link. It is my understanding that as American real estate investments went sour, foreigners are also affected insomuch as foreigners invested in these same investments.
Similarly, if the Japanese economy went sour such that Japanese companies lost their profitability, there would be American investors who would be badly affected because they own stock of these Japanese companies. If this loss of money prevents Americans from paying off their loans from American banks, this would be bad news for American banks.
Is this the sort of thing you were thinking of?
