There is a little book of voodoo that says, "Let the punishment fit the crime, not be the crime." Why insist on death? If you kill someone, you can no longer make him miserable. But also, if you attack someone who is protected by a deity or a fraternity, the return fire could be more than you bargained for. Plus, death spells can be habit forming unless you are a Huna and function as a cosmic law officer or something like that.
