I just want to interject, here, that trouble today is better than disorientation, tomorrow, and that is why friendly demons can be a good thing. Not everything that needs to be done abides by rules or consensus. But, before enlisting the cooperation of a being that is resolutely against the grain of creation, I think it best to get as good a picture as possible of the nature and function of such a being. If you have a certain project that you want to manifest, it may be possible to engineer it by recruiting beings of the fey and dragon orders who, though mischievous and sometimes impatient, aren't bound to some pathology of cruelty or innate dissent. Some demons can be kind and helpful to humans with whom they have a real bond. But, if the demon is relatively anonymous, I think it may just be a challenge to pursue the craft of the witch or mage, itself, rather than interacting with unknown entities, you know? But, life being the experiment that it is, it is often necessary to plunge into the unknown, as so many soldiers and adventurers have done. Yet, if you feel that you may have guardians or stalkers on the astral plane, it might be best to engage in patient, careful research about the basic dynamics of supernatural power before doing something that may involve you with ghosts whose agendas remain obscure. Still, it is often better to make something bad happen by experimenting than to let it happen by stagnation. If I had spirits about that were making their presence felt, I would get into a circle with a crystal and ask them what they wanted, and what they might be willing to do.
