And, also remember that a "love" spell can sometimes injure the target, especially if he is willing to embrace another's ego. Love and lust are not the same deal, really. Probably the best way to get off the hook that I can think of is to explain to the most powerful of your guardian spirits that you have reviewed the action, have found a mistake, and have learned from it.
