A Witch's Ladder is something I often use, to the great benefit to my practice. It is used very much the same way a Catholic says a rosary or a Buddhist uses a mala.
You say a prayer, an affirmation or a mantram, and use the beads to keep track of how many you say without consciously thinking of it. This way, you can build energy, intent and focus your will on whatever it is you are saying the mantram for.
I like to combine the use of my witch's ladder with candle magick- quick and efficient (sp) spellwork for me.
