Posted by Kitty One of my favorites is the philosophy the ancient Egyptians had, with the 5 parts of the soul- the Ba, the Ka, the Khu, the Sekhem and the Khabit (I could be off on my terminology, and there are others who know more about this than I do on this list)...which are basically the Soul, the Astral Double, the Intelligence, the Heart or Power and the Shadow. I read in Budge's "Book of the Dead" that there are other parts, like the Ren (name), but these are the most important. Look them up! They make for a fun reading project! Try looking up the philosophies of different places and beliefs...ancient Egypt and Greece, or even philosophies like Theosophism or Gnosticism. In the end, you may have to just research and make up your own mind. Good luck!

I think interpretations of where one's spirit actually resides differs from source to source. Some say it resides in and around the entire body, some cultures ascribe it to certain areas only, and many ancient cultures ascribed different parts of the soul that resided in different places within the body, around the body, and even within parts of itself.
