What is the difference between a pentacle and a pentagram? In the past most have agreed that there is no difference. Most also agree that a pentacle or pantacle is usually displayed as hanging in some fashion, such as a banner or pendant or talisman either around the neck or possible strung up in any manner. This is absolutely correct! However here is an added differentiation sure to generate an Ah-ha or two: A pentacle or pantacle is not necessarily consisting of five points! The word pentacle (or pantacle) comes from an old French word for "to hang" and means a talisman, or by extension, any symbol used in magical operations. So adorn your Seal of Solomon, your hexagram, your Second Pentacle of Jupiter with its six points OR your Unicursal Hexagram and fear not referring to it as a Pentacle when some Curious George inquires, "Is that a Jewish Star??" No! Don't wince or cringe, just tell them, "It is my Pentacle." That will throw them!
