In 1870, it is said, a group of Illinois Central investors and their wives were instrumental in naming LeMars, IA, a new terminal on the westward route. The ladies contributed their initials, my mother was advised by local historians, as follow:
L - Lucy Underhill
E - Elizabeth Persons/or Parsons
M - Mary Weare
A - Anna Blair
R - Rebecca Smith
S - Sarah/or Sara Reynolds
