Ok, to answer a couple of statements and questions here. The scrimmage outlook does not look good right now. We were told that we could not scrimmage Bridgewater by the league. While I wish we could scrimmage them I also understand the league's point of view from a management stand point. All teams ask their players to pay dues. What the amount is depends on what that team sets down. Ours is $50 which is the cheapest around and we are still having a hard time collecting from some players. This makes the financial aspect of things difficult on our owner. He is not made of money and the things that we have to pay for are expensive. Uniforms are issued in good faith and are the property of the team/owner. When a player does not return his jersey and the owner has to go out and spend $70 for one on average or $140 for both that is another financial set back. If every player did something like that then the team is bankrupt. Contracts and releases help insure that a team does not get stiffed by an individual player that has not honored his commitment. While a player may not be released or allowed to play for another NEFL team if he still has outstanding business with his team there is little that can be done if a player leaves the league all together for another team. What can be done though is a type of sanction against the team that the player(s) went to out of the league and in this case the entire NEFL is forbidden to have any football interaction with that team. So the league has pretty much stepped up to back up the aggrieved team. That was voted on at the league meeting by all the NEFL teams and the decision was unanimous. This helps protect the business interest of individual teams within the league. So while we can't scrimmage Bridgewater for that reason, it is a necessary action.
So as far as scrimmages go, The Townies declined our request all together. Clinton Irish Blizzard already had their scrimmage schedule set up. Mass Fury is booked up until their season starts and we cannot scrimmage Bridgewater. We are still talking to a couple of other teams but nothing solid yet.
