Posted by John R. I just want to check with you and your experience for this 1978 euro M90 e24 (3453cc) L-Jet rebuild. I have 222kilometers on this motor and it just uses a little oil and smokes a little but has decent compresion. Everything runs fine though. I have traded for a new (current) Metric Mechanic head (uninstalled yet) but I imagine I will need to rebuild the bottom end and piston bores for the MM head upgrade. Here is what I am thinking..new MM head, new pistons with maximum M90 overbore (??), stroke to 86mm e34 535 (stock M90 84mm stroke)crank (later crank is lighter than pre-e28/e24 535i cranks). This should give me a near 3.8 liter motor? Any help here or am I going the wrong direction? I could always just do a stock rebuild on this M90 218hp motor (EPA exempt, no cat, stock euro exhaust, no headers, stock L-Jet) and resell the MM head I guess. I hear you have a lot of experience with the M90 motor rebuild and build up hp. Thanks in advance. Soory for the rambling.... No track usage envisioned. I like the MM idea of usable everyday driveability/torque and not so much extra hp need at just high rpm range like the Alpina motors (B9 3.5 245hp).
