No, I don't have any direct experience with the 524td crank, although I've heard that it is standard forging, just like the M30 crank. I'd hesitate myself on just tossing crankshafts into blocks unless I knew for sure that they fit, perfectly. If you are going to run into all kinds of design problems, you could just drop and M30 engine into that 323. I believe Alpina did this on some of their cars. It would, obviously, save you a lot of headaches.
