Posted by Maree Fraser Alistair was also close friends with my uncle, Tom Fraser and his wife Rena Fraser. If you notice in the front of his last book, Santorini, it is dedicated to "Tom and Rena, my aunt and uncle. Just after Santorini was released, Tom and Rena signed my copy of it for me. Alistair had already passed away and my uncle passed away shortly after he signed my book. Unfortunately, my father, who had many stories to tell about Alistair, has also passed away. I found this site very interesting, and just happened on it by chance. Thanks Mr. Rollins!

My Father, Hamish MacDonald Fraser, grew up with Alistair MacLean in the parish of Daviot, where Alistair's father was the Minister. My Dad used to visit Glasgow with the MacLean family when they went there on vacation.
We have an audio copy of the eulogy given at Alistair's memorial service in Daviot Church, since he died and was buried abroad, sent to my father by my uncle Tom. It is a crudely recorded cassette tape taken on an ordinary cassette recorder, but the sound isn't too bad, considering it was taken in such an old and tiny church.
My Dad would have been able to tell me many stories about him, and did. If I had just listened more closely, I would be able to remmember a lot more of them. My mother still knows of some, which I will ask her about in the morning.
