Branson and Van Effen were enjoying themselves immensely. I was thinking Bruce Campbell and Billy Zane respectively.
The novel is one of MacLean's best, and I believe the only reason it has yet to be filmed is the location. The fact that it is a major traffic artery prohibits location filming, and the Golden Gate Bridge isn't the kind of thing you can fake.
Man, that food-testing sequence... MacLean at his best.
