Goodness, I just reread my post and found the final sentence open to misinterpretation. I did not wish to imply that your family considered Alistair as the best friend they'd ever known, rather, Alistair considered Tom Fraser from your family the best friend that he had ever known in his lifetime. And from what I could gather, having been in their presence, the feeling was mutual. As dad was wont to say, "We are fellow co-conspirators."
