Yes, Alistair MacLean was a very good friend of my father's (Hamish MacDonald Fraser) family. Daviot is/was a very tiny village. My father went to school with Alistair. My father's brothers and sister also attended. It was all in one room, no division of grades or classes.
I do have access to a letter to my dad from Alistair with his signature on it that I will endevour to try to retrieve, again, from my sister.
If you've ever noticed, his las book was dedicated to my dad's brother and his wife, Tom and Rena (fraser). I asked my aunt and uncle to sign my copy on their only trip to see my parents. My uncle was suffering from cancer, so he died very shortly thereafter.
