It was set on/in some arctic base, and the story really started there, I believe with the main character flying in to investigate something that happened. So it's not Bear Island or Ice Station Zebra, where much of the story takes place en route to these respective places. I am (almost) certain it IS a McLean book, but no matter how often I check blurbs and outlines of all his stories, I cannot find it! Does my sketchy description ring a bell with any of you? Thanks,
