Hello there, after reading your comments all I can say is that there never ever will be one like A.Maclean for the simple fact that he was a unique in his own way. There is no match. I think the great Ian Fleming who wrote all James Bond books is very good as his style is unique to him and there is always a suspense in not knowing what our James will do. The narrative and the dialogues are simply out of this world but you cannot compare it with Maclean as his story is from another dimension. Since the end of the cold war and the advent and the popularity of the internet the quality of wrting of the like which Alistair used to write is simply not there and the publishers are not encouraging the future writers to follow a certain line of story. This is a pity and a reflection of what kind of a world we are living in. You will find that there are lots of books of the stories leaning towards the right wing ideas emerging from the States where this kind of story writing is in abundance and probably encouraged. I think if Maclean was alive today he would have found a ready enenmy amongst us rather then going East because in all his books the enemy was always within the circle and the great conundrum was who was who and how it will be achieved. I cannot see Jeffery Archer filling his shoes. As I had said that there will never be another Maclean but I will keep a look out for you and post you the result of my research. Happy reading
