"Radio Luxembourg" English Programmes were broadcast from Luxembourg as part of the RTL group of companies. 208 was just one of MANY Radio Stations and TV stations which they either own outright, or have shares in. RTL group is a VERY big player in the Radio and TV market place - and if they put their full might behind a project - it will not fail for lack of investment, as they have deeeeep pockets! The current "Radio Luxembourg" programmes on the WWW and DRM are (I hope!) in test mode - Familiar names such as Benny Brown and Dave Christian are leading the line up, I would hope that they will be joined by other top-line presenters as and when RTL ramp-up both the DJ and the musical formatting quality. You have the classic problem facing any radio station when it starts, in that untill it has been on-air for quite a time - it is impossible to calculate the size of the audience. Added to that is the fact that DRM enabled radios are not slated for release to the general public till early 2006 - then you are faced with how long it will take for Joe Public to adopt the new equipment - and you realise it will be a LONG time before ANY sizeable audience can possibly exist. With that in mind, you have to accept that RTL believes in the DRM project in a big way - otherwise they would most certainly not be wasting their money - they don't see "Radio Luxembourg" as a hobby - its an investment in the future of radio broadcasting - and a blooming big one at that! I don't think that they will invest a fortune in promotional advertising for the new station in the start-up period - why do that when nobody has the radios that can pick it up! DRM in my mind will be a huge success - but it will not happen over-night. I have no idea how RTL plan to turn the new Radio Luxembourg into a success - both in terms of super programmes pulling listeners away from the competing and established UK and European stations..... and in terms of selling airtime. RTL have the ability to "Spank" most of the opposition out there IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO! - lets tune in and hope they make the right choices! I want it to work - driving back to the UK with one station in tune all the way there and all the time I'm driving around...... wonderful! DRM - bring it on! I will be amongst the first to get a new car radio as soon as I can get my hands on one at a reasonable price.....
